Our mission is expressed in our purposes—the fundamental
aims from which all of the church’s activities
and goals are derived. Like the foundation of a building,
the church’s purposes are the underlying support
upon which everything else is built. The purposes of
the Vineyard are the fleshing out of the ministry of
Jesus which he proclaimed in Luke 4:18:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed
me to preach good
news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom
for the prisoners and
recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,
to proclaim the year
of the Lord’s favor.
We value the joining together of the Word of God and
the Spirit of God, the integration of solid Biblical
theology with a thinking approach to modern life and
a Spirit-empowered practice of ministry. We want to
be guided both by the New Testament church modeled in
the scripture and by the needs of our culture in the
21st century in how we do church, while holding to the
unchanging truths of God’s Word.
We value flexibility, experimentation, risk-taking
and evaluation in ministry and outreach, always seeking
how God would have us work now.
We value the expression of the resurrection, the power
and mercy of Jesus and the demonstration of the kingdom
of God.
